Georgia Still Unclear on Data Protection

It is almost two decades since Georgia has undertaken the revolutionary steps aiming the fundamental reforms of Georgian legislation and its compliance with the newly emerged tendencies. Legislative measures have concerned almost all vital spheres of social, economical and political life. However, the said is not true for the issue of data protection. It seems that business or ethical rationale behind the comprehensive scheme of data protection is not well understood yet in Georgia.

It has to be noted that mining has been one of the leading spheres of industry in Georgia for decades, due to the existence of a wide range of high-quality mines. Georgia mainly produces manganum, as well as copper concentrate and gold dore. There is an important coal mine in Tkibuli in western Georgia.

1. Describe, in general terms, the key commercial aspects of the oil sector in your country.

Currently there are 15 oil deposits in the territory of Georgia. Estimated oil reserves for 1 September 1995 amounted to 580 million tons (383 million is accounted to onshore oil deposits and 107 offshore (Black Sea) deposits). An increase in estimated oil reserves has not been observed in Georgia for the last decade.

Description of domestic natural gas sector 
1.In general terms, describe the domestic natural gas sector, including the natural gas production, LNG storage, pipeline transportation, distribution,commodity sales and trading segments.

Approximately 30 per cent of the country’s energy needs are met by natural gas. LNG is not available in Georgia. Likewise, domestic gas production is non-existent. Nearly, all natural gas importing is done from Russia.
